It is that time of year. The time where we set new goals, review old goals and get intentional about our lives and dreams. Or not.
Setting new goals and intentions is not everyone’s cup of tea, and that is ok. For myself, and my podcast partner Dee, we LOVE setting intentions. Why intentions instead of goals? They may be similar, but for me at least, I don’t want falling short of a ‘goal’ to deter me from the end result (I could get down on myself because I am not hitting a goal/number); however my intention is always going to be my north star and keep me focused on what I most want.
The real key is knowing what you most want. I love Danielle LaPorte’s book, Desire Map (http://amzn.to/2B7PtgA) which does a fantastic job of helping one dive in and truly understand what one wants. For me, I want FEELINGS, CONNECTION, EMOTIONS. Not things.
Desired feeling—> Intention—> Inspired Action
For example, my intentions might be:
- I want to feel successful.
- I want to experience connection with those I love.
- I want to be excited about the work I do.
Within each of these will be inspired actions.
Example:
I want to feel successful.
Ways I might feel successful:
- Getting up early and reading/studying for 30 minutes
- Scheduling out my week each Sunday
- Meeting with an accountability team monthly to review activities planned
- Completing a marketing calendar by quarter
Etc.
I would do this per intention.
I use this worksheet and then I put it into a vision board. See the sample boards above and below. Dee, my podcast partner, has a bit of a different route- which is beautiful because we flow with what works best for our own alignment.
I would love to hear what works best for you and would love to see your 2018 goals/intentions! Please share!
