Hi babes, can you feel that chill in the air?! Oh yeah baby, it’s almost Christmas! I feel like I may have typed the same thing last week, but I care not, because I love the holidays! Why so obsessed Shannon, you ask? Well, it’s one of the few times of the year that most people focus on the positive. For me that is truly a beautiful thing. But as with all things, seasons will come and go, so today I want to assist you with getting your mind and body completely together for 2023. A year that promises to be whatever beautiful thing you CHOOSE to make it. Which brings me to yoga for stress and anxiety. I know, I know, sharp turn but it’s all relevant. Let’s chat.
Practicing Yoga for Stress & Anxiety Management
We all want to leave our baggage in the old year and start anew at the beginning of the year. In fact, its why many people set resolutions. While the theory is lovely, we are moulded by our past, so a completely blank slate is a bit of a reach. Instead, we must find ways to improve, grow and cope.
As you may recall in last week’s post, we focus on setting intentions not just mere resolutions. We also discussed that when we practice this goal setting method, we create more manageable goals. Practicing yoga is one of those enabling activities that will help you push through the stress and anxiety of it all to achieve your intentions. A healthy mind + body is infinitely more willing and so is a happy soul. In all that we do, we must never forget to incorporate self-care in our plans.
The Science of Practicing Yoga for Stress & Anxiety Relief
I’m a gal that loves her receipts, so let me first begin by stating that it has been empirically proven that yoga is an excellent habit to decrease stress and relieve one’s anxiety. In one women-focused study, it was found that yoga is particularly beneficial as a complementary medicine for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
I can also attest to this through my own life experience, as I’ve shared at length in Surrender and my blog on why I became a yoga teacher. I’ve built my life around this belief and I’ve been lucky enough to watch many students and clients achieve a significant level of inner peace by incorporating yoga and its methodology in their daily lives.
Where to Find Help for Practicing Yoga for Mental Health Management
Now, I know this can all seem daunting; there are an overwhelming amount of videos, blogs and podcasts available at your fingertips. But did you know that you can take a course in yoga for stress and anxiety? I s!#t you NOT! We even offer our own course here at Mind & Body Complete. By taking a course on the topic all the information comes condensed in a more palatable form. That means a clear learning path is available to help you practice confidently with the certified backing of scientific-based knowledge. Oh yeah baby!
While I’m not able to speak to other courses, our particular course is designed to help yoga and meditation instructors to host safe and inspirational classes for those that suffer from stress and anxiety. It is also great for those who suffer from stress and/or anxiety to learn tools that may help improve symptoms of stress and anxiety.
For instance, our course is broken down into learning scientifically proven processes for practicing mindfulness. We also focus on teaching grounding techniques to help alleviate negative symptoms from stress, anxiety and even trauma. Naturally, we also focus on improving your yoga postures, meditation and breath work, which ties it all together.
Final Words
Babes, the truth is that yoga can and has saved countless lives. Its ethos, methodology and physiological benefits works but only when you put in the work. If you are to achieve all that you intend to in the future, you will need an outlet and self-care tools to get you there. Yoga can do all of that. I invite you to learn some more about it and perhaps even (shameless plug here) check out our Mind & Body Complete: Yoga for Stress and Anxiety short course.
P.S. You will get *25 CE hours for Yoga Alliance available upon completion of course.
