Hey loves! I am sun-kissed, blissed out, and rejuvenated by my sand, sea, and sun vacation with the Jamail clan. Last week I spent a few days at the beautiful Cinnamon Shores in Port Aransas, Texas. I love the beach, the negative ions from the waves and sea create positive and restorative energy. But…what about you? When was the last time you took a vacation? Business will always be there and time…time is something we can’t waste. Tomorrow is guaranteed for no one.
Take A Vacation to Replenish Your Body
Guys, I am a workaholic. At any different time, I’ve got a ton of things that require my attention, my yoga teacher training business here at MindBodyComplete, our family’s Retreat Ranch, authoring my next book, and so on. I can just close my eyes and hear all the different voices, email dings, and telephone rings (when reception is great at the ranch). Sometimes I sit back, and I am happy to hear them; my husband and I have worked hard for our success, and I don’t take our blessings lightly. But there are times when I just want to jump on one of my horses and ride into the sunset.
I know I’m not alone in feeling overwhelmed by life. I don’t feel guilty either because usually, it means it’s time I take a vacation. Whether you have more or less on your plate, it matters not. When our body talks to us and our mind begins to waver, we all have to listen to it.
Time is Fleeting, Use Your Vacation to Create Meaningful Memories
I’ve got a big family, with the most beautiful grandchildren and amazing kiddos and I want more for them than I’ve ever had, and that includes creating experiences that will stay with them for life. Let me be honest, there have been times in my life when I’ve missed the opportunity to make a lasting memory with someone. I will never get back that time.
As I shared in my book, Surrender, when I was growing up, my life was…unstable. When I was young, I also didn’t have the luxury of understanding the value of time. I can’t change the past, but I can create a better, happier, and more rewarding presence NOW. Whether you take a solo trip or go on with loved ones, you are creating positive energy that will not only rejuvenate your body but possibly manifest even more adventures.
A Vacation is What You Make It
My loves, this is not a call to empty your bank account and go on a world trip (unless you can afford it, in which case GO YOU!). No, this is a sign to plan some downtime outside the hustle and bustle of life. As someone in the hospitality business, I’m here to say there are many ways to take that break. Here are a few ideas:
- Plan a staycation and explore your local town or the next one over. It can be just a day, or longer.
- Plan a rejuvenation experience by going to a retreat. I know a great place that plans the very best yoga retreats in Texas and at least once per year, somewhere else in the world *Wink*. When you rely on retreat hosts like me, you can leave it to the experts to create a roster of events that target and replenish each of your senses.
- Go to the nearest (or farthest if you prefer) ocean, beach, waterfall, river, lake, pond, or stream. That thing I said about the negative ions from water rejuvenating our souls is not a joke, it’s true.
- Book a spa day. It can be a nice pedicure and manicure, or you can do the whole shebang and get a massage, body services and the works!
- Take a recovery day. This is especially critical for persons with chronic illnesses, diseases and stress load. You can turn off the phone, send the family off to somewhere else and simply sleep.
These are just a few ideas to get your mind going. What matters is you choose a vacation that you can afford and that best suits your needs at that moment in time.
I rarely have the opportunity to take long breaks, especially with my husband and kids. My trip to Cinnamon Shores was everything I needed to relax, create memories, experience something new (including people), and sleep. I want that for you; you deserve your chance to replenish your soul. One cannot pour from an empty vessel; refuel yourself so you can manage everything and everyone else around you. This is a sign, take that vacation!
XOXO Shannon
