The word I am talking about today is Fear. (hey what word did you think I was talking about?).
Fear can be, under ‘normal’ circumstances, very debilitating to us. In today’s world? It is almost like our second layer of skin. It is with us all day. It plays hide and seek but mostly it seeks us. It is a fucking constant reminder that we have no control and that nothing is what we thought it was.
It is bringing us to our knees, our wine bottles, and to tears.
Here is one thing I do know: fear is always there. Not just now, but always. There isn’t a time when we won’t be faced with fear (hopefully not as a constant daily shower however). It is part of the human experience.
So what do we do about it?
First we breathe.
Ya ya I know, so simple. But right now, are you taking full breaths? Or shallow breaths (I am gonna bet on shallow breathing)? Are you inhaling fully, and then fully exhaling? Try it right now in an exaggerated way. Take in a deep breath so that your belly expands and you can’t possibly take in any more air. Hold it just for a heartbeat or two, and then exhale it fully so that your belly button reaches for your spine. Do that two more times. Or do it while you read the rest of this.
Then we embrace.
Yes my love, we embrace fear. We hold hands with it and let it know that we appreciate it. Fear is trying to protect us. If we show gratitude toward our fear, then we take back some of our power over it. Take a moment right now, and picture your fear in your body and mind. Find where it is and seek it out. Then, out loud if possible, tell your fear- “Fear, listen up, I so appreciate you looking out for me. I do. I know you have my best interest at heart and I want you to know I appreciate it”.
Then we connect.
We connect to our inner knowing. To our heart space. To our spirit or chi. To the bigger source of power within and outside of us. We recognize in this very moment, we are ok. We are safe. We are supported. And we do this all throughout the day.
Connect. Inner knowing. We are ok. We are safe.
We also connect with others. Support of community is crucial in the best of times, but life saving in the worst of times. You can do this through your current circle of trusted spirits, or you can seek and meet other spirits looking to also find the best within themselves. One way to do that is on my Virtual Retreat happening in September. During this time we will connect with like minded women from around the world and learn tools to overcome physical and emotional disruption as well as be guided through incredible mediation and yoga practices with my amazing friend Melissa.
Come connect with me and others and let’s take back our power from fear.
