Hey babes! Recently, I was asked by someone if online yoga teacher training is legit. Of course, I gave a resounding yes! You may be wondering if I was offended by the bluntness of the question, the truth is I wasn’t. I get it, signing-up for online courses can be scary, no matter the subject. Also, let’s be honest, there are a scary number of pseudo-experts popping up all over the internet these days.
However, when it comes to the world of online yoga teacher training, there are heavily regulated international certification bodies. I realized we’ve never really gotten into this topic on the blog, so in this week’s post, I want to spend some time talking through what legitimizes an online yoga teacher training.
How to Verify if an Online Yoga Teacher Training Course is Legit
Ok, so as I mentioned to you earlier, any great 200 hour online yoga teacher training course (YTT) will have to follow a few regulatory guidelines. There are a few things to look out for that can help you with the verification process. Here are a few helpful questions to ask yourself when accessing the veracity of a program:
- Is the program you’re interested in registered to an internationally recognizable yoga association body like Yoga Alliance?
- If the course says it’s Yoga Alliance certified, does it follow the elevated standards for the Yoga Alliance RYS 200 Core Curriculum requirements?
- Does the course offer you 75 hours of techniques, training and practice on Asana, Pranayama and Subtle Body and Meditation?
- Will the course cover a minimum of 30 hours of anatomy and physiology, inclusive of biomechanics?
- Per regulations, does the course offer you 30 hours covering topics on Yoga Humanities, including its history philosophy and ethics?
- Finally, does the course dedicate 50 hours to teaching Professional Essentials like teaching methodology, professional development, and the very important practicum?
If the answer is yes, then you’ve struck yoga teacher training course gold!
