Hi babes! As I write this blog, I’ve checked the calendar and realized, it’s the first day of fall. I’ve always found this time of the year beautiful, especially here in the hill country of Texas. It marks a season of change for our ever giving Earth. For some of you, the leaves have already begun to change color where you live. And for the rest of us, it’s that slight chill in the evenings or mornings that signal some transition is taking place. So, today I’ve chosen to address a topic that is hard, necessary, and inevitable in our lifecycle – change.
Change is Hard But….
Without change we are not growing. And if we are not growing, essentially, we are dying and stagnant.
Let’s look at some hard facts:
- The Earth changes, seasonally, through tectonic shifts and even its rotation.
- We change – (a) Daily (b) Overtime through ageing and (3) To adapt to life based on our experiences, good or bad.
- The galaxies move and every second we go toward an unknown destination.
What I’m getting at is that change is hard but whether we notice or not, it happens every day around us and within us. Sh**, change is right up there with death and taxes. On second thought, maybe those last two references aren’t perkier examples, but they’re still a part of life.
Not all change is bad, it’s ingrained in our body and aura. It is the idea of particular changes, the unknown ones or those that fall outside our ‘control’, that really give us the heebie-jeebies. And I get it, but without change we don’t evolve. It’s how we learn our lessons, from baby to adulthood. The more we go with the flow of transformation, the better we’re able to navigate and adapt to life. When we try go against it, I guarantee you, life becomes unnecessarily hard. Why? Well life, for all our limited understanding of what it truly is, just isn’t built that way. Resistance creates more resistance.
Change is Beautiful…
Although sometimes painful, transformation can be the most powerful catalyst for beautiful things.
As a yoga teacher trainer, the methodology behind yoga involves constant change in itself. It’s in the flow of our asanas, how our body feels or responds to it and what we choose as our meditative focus. It’s something I try to remind my students; I encourage you to do the same with yours. When we’re on the mat, our energy transforms as we move through our asanas while focus on breathing, thereby releasing the negative and inhaling the positive.
While admittedly, some situations are more complex, the thought process should remain the same. Afraid to apply to that new job you’ve been eyeing? Breathe and follow your gut instincts, your life’s energy flow is guiding you towards this potentially necessary new change. Dealing with complex health issues? Breathe, work to accept the change in lifestyle requirements and I assure you, managing (or beating!) the illness will become more tolerable, even on the harder days.
Change is Inevitable…
…And no matter what we do, we can’t stop things around us from changing.
You know I like to keep it 100 on this blog. As a daughter, a woman, a wife, a parent, and a business owner, I know firsthand that the flow of change can feel like a gut punch. Life is hard, adulting is hard and existence can be challenging. But we must learn to accept it, so we can live, grow, overcome challenging situations, and even find happiness.
Like the changing leaves come fall, we too must go with life’s cycle of inevitable transitions. If we breathe and focus on the positive, it can truly become a more beautiful experience.
