Life Aim the Chaos
It is no secret that things right now are…eh…difficult. Does anyone else feel like it has been 2+ years of a constant barrage of fear, lies, bullying, political nightmares, media insanity…and just sadness?
It can be so overwhelming.
Don’t forget to throw in everyday ‘normal’ stressors like a job, family, weather impacts, health issues and just living in a bit of a broken…albeit still beautiful, world.
Recently on my friends podcast, I was asked what I do to stay focused or grounded and I shared with her three grounding tips to calm chaos that are currently working for me.
Like everything I do, it is written in pencil, as these tips are working for me now. But I am always open to necessary changes, growth and the removal of toxic people/behaviors/ideas as I learn and adapt.
Here are the grounding tips working for me right now, in order to not only stay focused on my needs and desires, but also to be able to go with the flow more easily (allowing vs resisting).
Tip #1: Get off social media.
Ok maybe you don’t want to give it up completely. But good grief please be more intentional about it. Here are some good rules to consider when it comes to social media:
1- Scroll less, live more. Set two time periods a day for five minutes each to visit your social media accounts. That is it.
2- Clean up your feed. Unfollow, block, mute or whatever anything that doesn’t align with feeling good.
3- Don’t feel the need to post/complain/attack others. Consider the following before you post: is it true (really, is it?), is it necessary, is it kind? If you can’t answer yes to all three, don’t go there.
Tip #2: Stop being a martyr.
Sorry love, there ain’t no awards, badges, trophies or ribbons for doing all the things and killing yourself in the process. Ask for help damn it. Accept help damn it. Delegate more. And also be ok if shit doesn’t get done exactly as you think it should be. (ps I am really focusing on this one too).
Tip #3:SELF CARE IS ESSENTIAL
Self care is such a hot topic. People envision bubble baths, pedicures and alone time. All of those are so good and if that is what your self care looks like, then YES. But also self care is saying no more. Honoring what your body is needing. Surrendering what we think should happen. Self care can also be canceling plans. Quitting a job. Leaving a miserable relationship. Self care is essential and I can promise you that anyone that finds themselves at deaths door doesn’t wish they had done less of the above.
Bonus tip:Connect with earth.
There is science that show how earth can heal the body through electrical currents that naturally occur. It can impact many different areas of our body from inflammation to immune support to mood changes. Simply walking barefoot or even better, laying on the grass or dirt or sand can greatly benefit you, especially if you are overly stressed, anxious, sad or in pain. When I feel as if I am at a breaking point, I go outside and leave the electronics of my phone/computer behind and just breath with my body connected to earth. Game. Changer.
