Hi my loves! Since our chitchat last week, I hope you’ve been you’ve taking more breaks to breathe, reflect and meditate. Today, I wanted to address a question my partner, Kimmiyogini and I frequently get asked by new or growing yoga teachers, “How can we advance our social media presence for better growth?”. This is a pretty important business strategy as we live in a highly digital world. While we’ve covered this in our FREE Yoga Teacher Toolkit, we’re happy to share some of its information here. Take a breath, hold it for five seconds, then exhale. Let’s get down to business.
The importance of building your social media presence online.
We live in a digital world, period. It is therefore important to understand the technical tidbits required when creating a fulsome and engaging presence online. Am I saying you will fail without YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or even a website? Not necessarily, but the odds will be set against you because you’re simply NOT meeting your audience where they are ready and waiting – ONLINE!
The point must also be raised my lovies, that not all social media posts are created equal. If you create a social media account and expend hours on creating material that goes against the trends, or is of crap quality, then you are wasting your time. There are three key areas to focus on when preparing to create quality content for social media:
- Video
- Sound
- Editing
While I provide suggestions and recommendations in our free toolkit, I’ll use this blog to speak more about the technical elements.
How to create great yoga teacher video content
I love video content, and guess what? So do most people these days. Remember what I said about meeting your clients where they are? Well, here are some facts I’ve pulled from a recent 2023 SproutSocial article:
- 93% of companies have been shown to acquire new customers by using social media videos.
- In 2022, it was found that 66% of consumers, (potential yoga students!), finds short-form video the most engaging type of social media content.
- Users will retain a little over 90% of a video message as opposed to only 10% of text content.
Now, I’m a practical gal, who’s done multiple startup businesses so let me be clear, I’m not telling you to go out and buy the latest DSLR camera. Start small, you can use your phone! The important thing here is to create engaging video content. If you’re new, avoid jumping in the deep-end and worrying about live-streaming. Do multiple recordings of yourself then go with the most compelling (and engaging!!) content.
Why sound matters when creating great yoga teacher social media content
Now it’s all good and dandy that you’ve got a video, but what you SAY and SOUNDs matters too. It’s important you ask yourself questions like:
- What will I say? (Literally!)
- Do I need a script?
- Do I need music?
- Where can I find copyright free music?
- How will I record my voice if I need to speak to my audience?
- How can I use music to enhance my video?
It’s important to talk to your current and potential clients on social media. It makes it a more personal experience and thus can be appreciated as more authentic. In the YTT Toolkit, I make recommendations on my preferred strategies and tools to enhance your sound quality.
Can you imagine your favorite movie without the right music? Or stopping to watch your favorite TikTok or Instagram Reel without that catchy beat? Yeah, definitely not! Your business is just as important, so keep these things in mind when planning your content.
How to edit your yoga social media content
Ok, to recap, you’ve done the video, wrote a script, practiced a bunch of times, recorded yourself, and picked out music, great! Now it’s time to put it alllllll together. Before you panic, there’s an app for that! You can choose to tinker around on one by yourself or you can hire a freelancer.
The critical thing here, is to ensure that all this work wasn’t a total freaking waste of time. Rewatch your videos a couple times, request or make edits to improve it and most of all – sell yourself! You’re creating your brand identity, ideally it should be approachable, attainable but goal worthy.
I can’t recommend enough that you check out our free to download YTT Toolkit! It has more tips and tricks on social media planning, tech solutions and other very important topics that all new and exciting yoga teachers can use for improved business development.
See you lovelies right here next week!
