There is nothing like a solid supportive tribe. The kind of tribe that is full of people that pick you up when you are down, tell you like it is when you’re being an A-hole, hold you up when you can’t- and celebrate YOU in all ways. This sounds lovely right? Does this describe your tribe? Does this describe you?
I haven’t always been the best tribe member. And today perfection is not at all part of my language. When I can’t show up as my best self to my tribe (or anyone for that matter)- I subscribe to what we were taught when we were 5- if you can’t say something nice, shut it (that is my version).
Essentially that is a key component to being the best tribe member you can be. Honestly being good to other people.
This was triggered as a reminder for me this past retreat I held in Florida. During the retreat, a particular incident happened (outside of the retreat) that prompted some not so desirable reactions in my heart and mind. As I sat on the beach contemplating what I should say or do in response, I looked down at my wrist and was reminded by the amazing peeps at BeGoodToPeople.com, who donated some goodies for our retreat. In the midst of my cluster F*&k thoughts, I was reminded of what a good tribe person looks like- someone who is good to others. From the heart.
Is that your intention when interacting with your friends? With family? With your tribe? Do you feel that intention reciprocated back? If the answer is no- do you need to do some heavy lifting? Some heavy spring/summer cleaning in order to make room for the do good friends and thoughts you desire?
