Are you juggling too many balls?
In this episode of Happy Hour Podcast, my friends and I talk about juggling too many balls, as we always have been, but most especially in the face of COVID 19. We are in this extraordinary time where we are just juggling things we don’t normally juggle. So, let’s join their raw, candid, and hilarious conversations as you may be able to pick some good insights and approaches that you might relate to!
A new normal
We are in a new normal where this pandemic has brought us so many things. People are working remotely with 24 hr access to work while juggling the demands of family and life in general. All of us are dealing with a lot right now. And the transition and finding balance within your life is likely more challenging, yet even more essential.
There’s no way for anyone to do anything better than someone else. We all are still figuring out and coping at our own paces. We all have these most moments where we get frustrated, angry, defeated, and fearful because of the uncertainties. AND THAT IS OKAY! But you can continue to be afraid of this or you could just keep living regardless. Sometimes, the fear is even much worse than the thing itself.
In this time where it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all of things that are happening plus the things we hear from the news and read from social media, it is very vital to be intentional on where to focus our energy. We get to learn some approaches and go tips to relieve ourselves from the pressure. And maybe relate to them at some point.
#1 Elimination of Social Media/ Social Media Break
Yes social media has a great power especially getting connected with our loved ones. But if you don’t try your best to eliminate your social media time, it is just going to create mental distress because it has become a volatile place to be right now. There’s so much division, anger, and frustrations. And with everything going on, we all have the urge to constantly check it. And we don’t realize it causes us distress and limits us from making sound decisions or being able to be creative. We don’t realize that it has become a habit, a reflex that we check our social first thing in the morning and engage with people. We should take care of our energy first before responding to someone else’s energy.
#2 Staying Physically Active
It is an easy and free way to boost your mental and physical health. It releases chemicals in your body which are great for your mood. Given the current situation, it is great for your immune system!
#3 Reading a Good Book
The stay-at-home order has radically changed how we spend our time. But one activity that has remained untouched is Reading. What is on your reading list? If you start to staple that into your day, it will become a nice habit No matter what’s going on in the world, a good book can be a good comfort or a welcome escape. Here are some book recos from this podcast: Johanna Lindsey (Historical Romance Novels) & Nina West (author of the sinfully sexy & highly addictive The Wolf Hotel Series and Dirty Empire Series. Now is the good time to check out those books!
#4 Decluttering
With the mandatory stay-at-home orders, we found ourselves with lots of extra time to tackle home projects like organizing our closet. Decluttering will allow you to get rid of that hasn’t been worn since forever. You may even find clothes to donate on shelters, hospitals and centers.
#5 Gardening
It is a relaxing recreational activity that can provide great personal rewards. It can also be a positive family-inclusive activity while many people are working and students are learning at home.
#6 Investing on yourself & your Family
One of its approach is creating a space or home that is just filled with love, acceptance, and compassion. Which is what is essential in life.
The bottom line is that emotions are contagious so choose your thoughts & activities wisely. Although we are human and will experience a multitude of emotions during this pandemic, but choosing to be positive especially at times more difficult than others, has not only helped to lift ourselves up but has given hope to others too!
The next time you catch yourself worrying about work, the world, and where life is headed, consider taking some of these steps.
Join the convo and let us know what is helping you to juggle so many balls!
